Pacific National Exhibition 2026

24 days of midway rides, free concerts, the legendary Prize Home, Superdogs, and family fun at Hastings Park. Here is how to make it your best day yet.

Welcome

Pacific National Exhibition 2026

The Pacific National Exhibition returns to Hastings Park in Vancouver from August 15 to September 7, 2026, bringing three and a half weeks of midway thrills, free outdoor concerts, agricultural exhibits, and family entertainment to the heart of East Vancouver. Since 1910, the PNE has been British Columbia's flagship summer fair β€” a province-wide gathering that draws visitors from the Okanagan, Vancouver Island, the Interior, and beyond. For out-of-town guests, this is not just a day at the fair β€” it is a full-scale BC experience requiring accommodation planning, transit navigation through Metro Vancouver's sprawling network, and weather preparedness for the famously unpredictable coastal climate.

This guide is built specifically for visitors arriving from outside Vancouver β€” whether you are driving in from Surrey, catching a ferry from Nanaimo, or flying from Prince George. We share insider strategies for beating the crowds, saving money on food and rides, navigating TransLink like a local, and making the most of everything the PNE 2026 has to offer. The PNE is British Columbia's fair β€” and with the right plan, it will be the highlight of your summer.

Before You Arrive

10 Essential Tips for the PNE 2026

From navigating Metro Vancouver's transit as an out-of-town visitor to beating the Prize Home queues and riding the midway on a budget β€” here is everything you need to know before stepping onto the Hastings Park grounds.

01

TransLink Day Pass Beats Driving Every Time

If you are coming from outside Vancouver, do not drive to Hastings Park. Parking near the PNE costs $35–$50 on fair days and the surrounding residential streets have strict permit-only zones with $100 tickets. Instead, buy a TransLink Day Pass for $11 CAD per adult β€” it covers unlimited bus, SkyTrain, SeaBus, and Canada Line travel across Metro Vancouver all day. From any SkyTrain station, transfer to the #14 Hastings bus or #16 29th Avenue bus at Waterfront, Burrard, or Granville stations. The buses drop you directly at the PNE gate every 5–8 minutes. The Day Pass also works for the return trip to your hotel or ferry terminal, saving you $60+ compared to driving.

02

Prize Home Tours β€” Go Before 11 AM or Skip the Line

The PNE Prize Home is a fully furnished dream house lottery that draws massive crowds β€” but the line to walk through the show home can exceed 90 minutes on weekend afternoons. The tour is free with fair admission and the house is spectacular, but you need a strategy. Arrive at the Prize Home display (located near the Pacific Coliseum side) before 11:00 AM, when the first wave of visitors is still on the midway. The queue moves fastest between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM when the show home opens fresh. Tuesday through Thursday mornings see 70% shorter wait times than Saturdays. If you see a line snaking past the Coliseum, come back after 5:00 PM β€” the evening concert crowd empties the queue significantly.

03

Midway Ride Pass β€” Buy Online Before the Price Jumps

PNE midway ride passes cost $42 online versus $55 at the gate. The online Play Pass includes unlimited rides for the day β€” but only if you buy it before midnight the day prior. Weekend passes often sell out digitally by Thursday. For families, the Family Fun Pack (2 adult admissions + 2 Play Passes) saves another $28 compared to buying separately. The catch: the Play Pass does not cover the Extreme Zone (the fastest thrill rides) β€” those require individual tickets at $6–$8 each. If you want the full thrill experience, budget an extra $24–$32 per person and go to the Extreme Zone in the first hour of operation (11:00 AM) before the lines multiply.

04

Free Amphitheatre Concerts β€” Reserve Your Wristband Online

Every evening at 7:30 PM, the PNE Amphitheatre hosts free concerts featuring top Canadian and international acts β€” past performers have included Walk Off the Earth, Big Wreck, and The Strumbellas. Here is the secret that many visitors miss: the concerts are free with fair admission, but you still need a free wristband to enter the Amphitheatre seating area. Wristbands are released online at 9:00 AM on the day of each concert and typically run out within 2 hours for popular acts. If you do not grab one by 11:00 AM, your only option is standing-room at the back of the amphitheatre hill, which has obstructed sightlines. Bookmark the PNE concert schedule page and set an alarm for 8:55 AM on the day you plan to attend.

05

The Superdogs Show Is a Must β€” Arrive 20 Minutes Early

The Superdogs β€” a high-energy canine agility show featuring rescued dogs performing jumps, races, and fetch competitions β€” is the PNE's longest-running and most beloved attraction. Shows run four times daily in the Pacific Coliseum (11:30 AM, 1:30 PM, 3:30 PM, 5:30 PM), but the Coliseum reaches capacity 10 minutes before each performance. Arrive 20 minutes early to secure a seat on the lower level. The 11:30 AM show has the smallest crowd because most visitors are still exploring the midway. The 5:30 PM show is the most packed β€” avoid it if you can. The dogs genuinely love performing, and even adults without kids consistently rank this as their top PNE memory.

06

Friday Night Fireworks Beat Saturday β€” And Arrive by 8 PM

The PNE fireworks displays happen every Friday and Saturday night at 10:00 PM throughout the fair, choreographed to music broadcast on the venue speakers. Friday night draws roughly half the crowd of Saturday, with better sightlines and shorter post-fireworks exit lines. Claim your viewing spot on the grassy hill behind the Amphitheatre (the area near the Prize Home) by 8:00 PM. Bring a blanket or a stadium cushion β€” the grass holds evening dew and you will be sitting for close to 2 hours. After the fireworks end, do not rush to the bus stop immediately. Wait 15 minutes on the grass β€” the initial crowd surge at the gate creates 30+ minute delays on Hastings bus service. Take your time, use the washroom, then walk out calmly.

07

Vancouver Weather Demands Layers β€” The Mist Is Real

The PNE operates rain or shine, and Vancouver in late August and early September is notoriously unpredictable β€” morning sun can turn to coastal mist by 2:00 PM, then clear again by 6:00 PM. Do not assume summer weather. Pack a lightweight waterproof jacket (not an umbrella β€” umbrellas block sightlines in crowded midway areas and are annoying to carry on rides), wear closed-toe shoes that dry quickly, and bring a thin sweater or hoodie for the evening when temperatures drop to 12–14 Β°C. The covered areas under the Pacific Coliseum and the Rollerland building get crowded fast when rain hits β€” if you have a rain jacket, you can keep walking the midway while everyone else bunches under cover, which means shorter ride lines for you.

08

The Market at the PNE β€” Shop the Final Week for Steep Discounts

The Market at the PNE, located in the Rollerland Pavilion, features over 100 vendors selling clothing, home goods, kitchen gadgets, gourmet foods, and artisan crafts. Most exhibitors are independent BC businesses who offer fair-only prices β€” but the real bargains appear during the final week (September 1–7). Vendors reduce inventory by 20–40% rather than pack products back to storage. Bring a reusable shopping bag and cash β€” some smaller vendors charge a 3% processing fee on credit cards. The best finds are BC-made hot sauce (try the smoky cherry chipotle), handcrafted wooden cutting boards, and locally roasted single-origin coffee. Tastings are free, so consider a mid-afternoon snack here instead of the midway food stands.

09

Kids' Day on Wednesdays β€” Free Admission for Children Under 12

Every Wednesday of the PNE, children 12 and under get free gate admission with a paying adult. This is the most budget-friendly day for families β€” a party of two adults and two kids saves $64 on gate entry alone. The catch: Wednesdays are also the busiest day for school groups and daycare field trips, so the midway and Superdogs shows are crowded between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Flip your schedule β€” arrive at 1:30 PM after the school groups start loading buses, hit the prize home and market first, then do the midway from 4:00 PM onward when the field trip crowd has cleared. The free kids' admission Wednesday also makes it the ideal day for the Play Pass (unlimited rides) since you are already saving on entry.

10

Last Bus and SkyTrain Timing β€” Do Not Get Stranded at the Gate

When visiting from outside Vancouver, the last bus departure times from the PNE are critical. The #14 Hastings bus runs until approximately 1:30 AM on weekends but only until midnight on weeknights. The #16 29th Avenue bus stops running to 29th Avenue SkyTrain station around 11:45 PM on weeknights. If you stay for the full evening concert and fireworks, check the TransLink Trip Planner before you leave your hotel. The last SkyTrain train from Commercial–Broadway station (one bus transfer away on the #14) departs at approximately 1:15 AM on weekends. If you miss these connections, a rideshare from the PNE to downtown Vancouver costs $30–$45 and to Richmond or Surrey runs $55–$75. Set a departure alarm on your phone for 30 minutes before your last transit connection.
